Alumni Ski Day

On March 19, 2014 the Eastern Sierra Region conducted a quite successful Alumni Ski Day at Homewood Ski Area. It was attended by 21 alumni plus the host, Nancy Stromswold, ESR Director. Both ESR and Mother Lode Region and alumni from 7 patrols were represented. The surprisingly spry group totaled 676 patrol years. Many had retired in Reno and around Lake Tahoe, but others came up from Sacramento and the Bay Area. Hal Bechtle came all the way from Arizona!

Snow conditions were somewhat springlike, but the brilliant sun and views of the Lake helped to make a very fun day for all. Many of the participants hadn’t seen each other in decades, but certainly enjoyed the camaraderie and sharing remembrances of skiing together in years past.

Many thanks are due to Nancy Stromswold and Armon Cooper, ESR Alumni Advisor, for organizing the event , Homewood Ski Area Management for supporting it and Homewood patrollers for contributing vouchers so that the alumni could ski for free.

This Alumni Aki Day is the first of other benefits beyond the patrol level that are contemplated for ESR alumni as part of the reinvigorated alumni program. A similar ski day is considered for 2015 and Daniel Howsepian’s European Patrol Seminar will be opened to alumni in 2016.
